SpongeBob SquarePants: SuperSponge is one of those early 2000s platformers that feels like it was made just to cash in on the show’s hype—but honestly? It’s way more fun than it has any right to be. You bounce around as SpongeBob, collecting shiny things (because of course he would), dodging jellyfish, and jumping on plankton robots like some kind of hyperactive kitchen sponge.
The GBA version’s a little rough around the edges—some of the controls feel stiff, and the camera doesn’t always keep up—but there’s something weirdly charming about it. The levels are packed with dumb little references to the show, and the music’s exactly the kind of goofy you’d expect. Not a masterpiece, but if you grew up with SpongeBob, it’s a weird little nostalgia trip.
Just don’t expect it to hold up like a proper Mario game.
