Okay, so SpongeBob and Friends: Attack of the Toybots is exactly what it sounds like—a chaotic, ridiculous GBA romp where you beat up evil toys with SpongeBob and the gang. The first level throws you right into it: you’re smacking robot jellyfish with Patrick’s belly flop while SpongeBob karate chops his way through toy pirates. It’s dumb in the best way.
The controls are simple (jump, attack, maybe a special move if you find a power-up), but the real charm is how much it feels like an episode of the show. The dialogue’s full of dumb jokes, and the levels are packed with little references—like Plankton’s tiny robot army or Sandy’s tree-dome getting overrun by wind-up toys. Graphics are bright and chunky in that classic GBA way, and the music’s all bouncy trumpets and ukulele.
It’s not exactly hard, but some of the later levels get surprisingly hectic when you’re dodging laser beams and trying not to fall off conveyor belts. If you ever wanted to see Mr. Krabs fight a giant robot version of himself over a pile of quarters, this is your game.
