About Special Criminal Investigation
Special Criminal Investigation came out for the Sega Master System, published by Sega. It was one of those games that felt like it was trying something different on the console, a side scrolling shooter that leaned into a police theme when a lot of games were still about spaceships or fantasy.
You control a police officer in a helicopter, flying horizontally across the city. Your main goal is to shoot down enemy vehicles and aircraft while rescuing hostages that appear on the ground. The core mechanics involve precise shooting to avoid hitting the hostages, managing your limited fuel supply by collecting canisters, and navigating through increasingly dense enemy fire. The game moves at a fast pace and the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding sharp reflexes to survive the later stages. It feels tense and demanding, where a single mistake can cost you a life.
