Classic Sonic 2 on the Master System—way different from the Genesis version, but still a solid little platformer. You’ve got Sonic and Tails (finally!) running through those bright, bouncy levels, smashing robot crabs and bouncing off springs like it’s 1992 all over again. Dr. Robotnik’s up to his usual nonsense, turning cute animals into machines, so you’ll be spin-dashing through loops and dodging spike traps to wreck his plans.

The Master System’s slower hardware means the speed isn’t quite as wild as the 16-bit games, but the level designs are clever—especially the hidden paths in Emerald Hill. And yeah, Tails can’t fly here like in later games, but having him around just feels right. The music’s got that classic Sega chirpiness too.

If you grew up with this one, it’s pure nostalgia. If not, it’s a fun, slightly janky peek at Sonic’s 8-bit roots.
