Sonic Blast was released for the Sega Master System in Brazil, a late entry for the 8-bit console. Developed by Aspect and published by Tec Toy, it arrived when many players had already moved on to 16-bit systems. This game uses pre-rendered graphics, a technique that gives its characters a chunky, three-dimensional look similar to Sonic 3D Blast on the Genesis.

You control Sonic, and sometimes Knuckles, running through side-scrolling levels to collect Chaos Emeralds. The main objective is to get through each stage, defeating robots and avoiding environmental hazards. Signature mechanics include the ability for both characters to perform a spin dash for a burst of speed and to find special stages hidden within the levels. The pacing can feel slow due to the graphical style, and the collision detection sometimes makes platforming more difficult than it should be.
