I picked up Soccer Kid for the Game Boy Advance back in 2002, a release from Krisalis Software. It was part of that wave of early GBA titles that explored what the handheld could do, offering a different kind of action platformer. You don't see many games built around a soccer ball as the central mechanic, so it stood out on a system filled with more traditional mascots.

You control a kid in a striped shirt, and your main objective is to rescue the world's stolen trophies. The core of the game is using your soccer ball to solve puzzles and fight enemies. You kick the ball to hit switches, break blocks, and knock out the various monsters blocking your path. The levels are designed screen by screen, requiring you to figure out the correct sequence of kicks to proceed, and you also collect colored keys to unlock new areas. The pacing is methodical, as a mistimed kick can send your ball into a pit, forcing you to wait for it to respawn. It feels like a clever mix of precision and puzzle solving, where every successful shot provides a small, satisfying click.
