About Sim City 2000 (u)(gbanow)
I picked up SimCity 2000 for the Game Boy Advance, a port of the PC classic that arrived on the handheld without much fanfare. It was developed by Maxis and published by Destination Software, letting you carry a complex city-builder in your pocket during the GBA's heyday. This version tried to fit a sprawling desktop experience onto a much smaller screen, which was an interesting challenge for the hardware.
You control everything as the mayor, zoning land for residential, commercial, and industrial use while managing the city's budget. Your main objective is to grow a thriving metropolis from empty terrain, balancing services like power and water against citizen demands and tax income. Signature mechanics include laying down a network of pipes and power lines underground and dealing with occasional disasters that can wipe out parts of your city. The pacing is slow and deliberate, demanding careful financial planning to avoid bankruptcy. It feels like a constant, engaging puzzle of urban planning, where every decision has a visible consequence for your tiny digital citizens.
