Shrek the Third came out on Game Boy Advance in 2007, published by Activision. It was one of the many licensed games on the system, arriving late in the handheld's life. You play through the movie's story, taking control of Shrek as he tries to find the next heir to the throne of Far Far Away.

The game is a side scrolling beat 'em up where you move through levels screen by screen. You control Shrek, using basic sword attacks and a ground pound to fight off waves of fairy tale villains. The main goal is to advance through each stage, occasionally switching to other characters like Puss in Boots or Artie for brief sections that change up the combat slightly. You collect coins to buy health upgrades and new moves from merchants, and the pacing is straightforward, though some enemy patterns can feel repetitive. The difficulty is manageable, but certain enemy swarms require you to spam the attack button to clear a path. Playing it feels like a simple, sometimes clunky, way to revisit the movie's plot.
