I picked up Shrek Smash N' Crash Racing on my Game Boy Advance back in 2006. It was published by Activision, one of many licensed games that filled the shelves during that era. The cartridge felt like a straightforward attempt to bring the chaotic energy of the movies into a portable racing format.
You control characters like Shrek or Donkey, racing them through tracks inspired by locations from the films. The main goal is simple: finish first. You can pick up weapons and items to smash opponents off the road or temporarily boost your own cart. The tracks are filled with shortcuts and hazards, demanding quick reflexes to navigate. It is not a particularly difficult game, but the constant threat of being hit by a stray projectile keeps you alert. Playing it feels like a messy, fast scramble where any racer can suddenly take the lead.
