I picked up Shrek Hassle At The Castle on the Game Boy Advance back in 2002, a time when licensed games were a real mixed bag. Activision published it, and it was one of those titles you'd see on the shelf hoping it captured some of the movie's charm. It's a straightforward 2D platformer that follows the plot of the first Shrek film, which was a common approach for games of that era.

You control Shrek through a series of side-scrolling levels, moving screen by screen. Your main goal is to rescue Princess Fiona from the castle, which involves a lot of jumping across platforms and fighting guards with your basic sword swing. You also get to use a bow and arrow in some sections, which adds a bit of variety to the combat. The game isn't particularly long, but some of the later stages can be tricky with their enemy placement and platforming challenges. It feels like a solid, if unspectacular, way to spend an afternoon with a portable console.
