Shining Soul on the GBA is one of those hidden gems that feels like Diablo-lite but with that classic JRPG flavor. You pick from four classes—warrior, archer, mage, or dragonute—and dive straight into hack-and-slash chaos. I went with the mage first, thinking I’d be all about fireballs, but turns out the archer’s rapid shots felt way more satisfying when swarmed by goblins.
The dungeons are bite-sized but packed with loot, and the pixel art still holds up—especially the spell effects. There’s something weirdly addictive about grinding for better gear just to take on the next boss, even if the story’s mostly “go here, stab that.” If you’ve got a GBA or an emulator lying around, it’s a solid pick for quick dungeon runs between bus rides.
