Shining Soul came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, published by Sega. It was part of that wave of action RPGs that tried to bring a console-style dungeon crawl to the handheld. You pick from a few character classes, like a warrior or an archer, and then you're thrown into a series of multi-level dungeons.

You control your chosen hero from an overhead view, moving screen by screen through monster-filled rooms. The main goal is to fight your way to the end of each dungeon, defeating a boss to collect a shard of an artifact called the Force. Combat is straightforward; you swing your sword or shoot your bow, managing a simple magic system and dodging enemy attacks. You'll break barrels for gold and potions, and the gear you find can be identified at town to reveal its stats. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty can feel unforgiving if you rush in. It feels like a solid, portable grind where every new piece of equipment makes a tangible difference.
