Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon is basically the GBA glow-up of the old Genesis classic, Shining Force. If you've played the original, you'll recognize the turn-based tactical battles and the squad of quirky characters you recruit along the way—except now everything looks way sharper, with redone sprites and some extra story bits thrown in.

At first, it feels like a straightforward SRPG—move your units on a grid, whack some monsters, rinse and repeat. But then you realize how much personality the game has. Like, why is there a chicken in my party? Why does the knight look like he just walked out of a Renaissance fair? It’s charming in that classic Sega way.

They tweaked a few things from the original, like adding new characters and rebalancing some of the weirder difficulty spikes. Not a total overhaul, but enough to make it worth revisiting if you’re a fan. The music’s still a banger, too.

Honestly, it’s one of those games where you start thinking, “Just one more battle,” and suddenly it’s 2 AM.
