Shin Megami Tensei Trading Card: Card Summoner is one of those weird little Game Boy Color gems that flew under the radar. It’s basically a stripped-down, pocket-sized version of the SMT universe—except instead of first-person dungeon crawling, you’re slinging cards with demons like Jack Frost and Pixie. The pixel art’s surprisingly crisp for a GBC title, and there’s something satisfying about watching your tiny sprites duke it out.
At first, the deckbuilding feels a bit overwhelming—you’ve got attack cards, demon summons, even items—but after a few duels, you start figuring out which combos actually work (hint: don’t sleep on buffs). The AI opponents aren’t pushovers either—they’ll punish you for playing sloppy. It’s got that classic late-90s TCG jank, but in a way that makes it weirdly charming. If you’ve ever wanted to see Mara in 8-bit trading card form, this is your chance.
