Shin Megami Tensei Trading Card on the Game Boy Color is basically Pokémon TCG but with demons—which, honestly, makes everything cooler. You start off picking a starter deck (I went with the fiend-heavy one because, well, demons), and right away you're throwing down cards like Pixie or Jack Frost against some seriously tough AI opponents. The pixel art for the creatures is surprisingly detailed for a GBC game, and the battles actually require some strategy—just slapping down your strongest card won’t cut it.
What’s neat is how it ties into the wider SMT universe—recognizable faces show up, and the fusion mechanic lets you combine cards mid-battle for stronger monsters. It’s all in Japanese, but if you’ve played any card games before, the menus aren’t too hard to figure out. Just expect to lose a few rounds while you learn what each demon actually does.
It’s a solid little time capsule for SMT fans who don’t mind some old-school jank.
