Shin Megami Tensei Devil Children: Kuro No Sho is one of those weird little GBC RPGs that somehow sticks with you. You start off as a kid thrown into this eerie world where demons are everywhere—some want to fight, some might actually help you if you play your cards right. The battles feel like a stripped-down version of mainline SMT, but that’s not a bad thing—you’ve still got demon recruiting, fusing, and all that good stuff, just without the overwhelming depth.

The pixel art has this grimy charm to it, and the soundtrack nails that unsettling-but-weirdly-catchy vibe the series is known for. Early on, you’ll run into a demon that looks like a floating lantern, and yeah, you can totally convince it to join your team instead of fighting. That’s when it clicks—this isn’t just another monster-collecting RPG. It’s got that signature SMT edge where choices matter, even if the tone’s a bit lighter than, say, Nocturne.

If you’ve got a soft spot for late-era Game Boy Color games that tried something different, this one’s worth digging up.
