You control Oscar, a fast-talking fish, through a series of underwater levels. The main goal is to work your way up from the bottom of the reef, completing missions to earn status and pay off your debts. The gameplay mixes beat 'em up combat, where you punch and tail-whirl groups of enemy fish, with chase sequences that have you rapidly dodging obstacles. You also collect pearls scattered throughout the stages to unlock new areas and progress. The pacing is generally brisk, though some of the later chase sections can be quite demanding. It feels like a straightforward action game that captures the movie's busy, colorful setting.
