If you grew up with the Shaman King anime or manga, this GBA game is a solid little throwback. You play as Yoh (or Ren if you pick the rival version, Rising Thunder), running around, collecting spirits, and getting into turn-based fights that actually feel pretty strategic for a handheld title.
At first, the spirit fusion system seems simple—just mash weaker spirits together to make stronger ones—but then you realize some combos work way better than others. I wasted a bunch of early-game ghosts before figuring out which ones actually synergized. The sprite work’s surprisingly crisp too, especially during battles where your oversized spirit allies fill half the screen.
It’s not perfect—the overworld’s a bit empty, and grinding can drag—but the boss fights against the other shamans? Those still hold up. You’ll recognize voices and music straight from the show if you’re a fan. Just don’t expect a deep RPG—it’s more like a snack-sized version of the Shaman King world with some fun monster-collecting quirks.
