Shaman King - Legacy of the Spirits - Soaring Hawk is basically Pokémon but with ghosts, spirits, and shamans instead of pocket monsters. You start off bonding with your first spirit—mine was a grumpy little fire dude—and then wander around challenging other shamans to battles. The fights play out in this cool grid-based system where positioning actually matters, which I wasn’t expecting at first.
There’s a decent variety of spirits to find, from floating swords to giant wolves, and some of them evolve (or "oversoul," if we’re being lore-accurate) into stronger forms. The story follows the anime, so if you’ve watched it, you’ll recognize a bunch of characters popping up. The sprite work’s pretty nice for a GBA game, especially when the spirits start glowing mid-battle.
It’s not the deepest RPG out there, but if you’re into collecting and tactical-ish fights, it’s a solid way to kill an afternoon.
