I picked up Sega Arcade Gallery for the Game Boy Advance back in 2003. It was developed by Digital Eclipse, a company known for these kinds of retro compilations. At the time, having a handful of classic Sega arcade games in your pocket felt like a small miracle, a direct link to a different era of gaming that was otherwise fading away.

You control different characters across four games: the spaceship in Zaxxon, the frog in Frogger, the monkey in Congo Bongo, and the superhero in Super Zaxxon. The main objective is simply to survive and score as many points as possible. In Zaxxon, you navigate an isometric field, dodging walls and enemies while managing your fuel. Frogger is a tense dash across lanes of traffic and a river full of hazards. The pacing varies from the methodical planning of Frogger to the constant pressure of Zaxxon's fuel gauge. It feels like holding a little piece of arcade history, straightforward and demanding in equal measure.
