About Scurge : Hive
Scurge: Hive came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2006, developed by Orbital Media. It was part of that later wave of GBA titles, arriving when many players were already looking toward the DS, but it offered a solid, self-contained adventure for those still carrying their SPs. The game didn't generate a lot of noise, but it found its audience among players who appreciated its specific blend of action and exploration.
You control Jenosa Arma, a bounty hunter who gets infected by a parasitic organism called the Scurge. Your primary goal is to contain the outbreak and find a cure, which involves delving deep into a contaminated research facility. The gameplay is built on screen by screen exploration, similar to classic top-down adventures, where you clear rooms of enemies and solve environmental puzzles to progress. Combat is straightforward; you use an energy whip for close attacks and a blaster for ranged enemies, switching between them as situations demand. A key mechanic is managing your infection level, which rises as you take damage and forces you to find decontamination pods before it overwhelms you. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty comes from managing your resources and navigating hazardous areas without clear maps. Playing it feels like a careful, sometimes tense process of clearing one contaminated room at a time.
