About Scrabble
Scrabble on Game Boy Color came out in 1999 from Hasbro Interactive. It was one of many board game adaptations for the handheld, letting you play the word game anywhere without needing the physical set. The greenish screen and chunky pixels gave it a distinct look, fitting right in with other titles from that era.
You control your own tile rack, placing words on a digital board against either computer opponents or a friend via link cable. The main goal is to outscore your rivals by forming high value words, using premium squares for multipliers. Key mechanics include shuffling your letters for new ideas and challenging questionable words played by the computer, which can remove them if they are not in the game's dictionary. The pace is generally relaxed, though the computer can be surprisingly competitive on higher difficulty settings. It feels satisfying to finally place that seven letter word you have been saving up.
