Sangokushi: Eiketsuden was a Game Boy Advance release from Koei, arriving early in the handheld's life. It was part of their long running Romance of the Three Kingdoms strategy series, adapted for a more portable format. You take command of an officer from the Three Kingdoms era, managing your character's growth and an entire force. The main goal is to unify China through a mix of strategic planning and tactical battles. You spend your time on a turn based map, moving armies and managing resources, then jump into grid based combat when you engage an enemy. A key mechanic is the duel system, where you can challenge enemy generals in a one on one rock paper scissors style engagement. The pacing is deliberate, requiring careful thought before each move, and the difficulty can be steep if you are unfamiliar with the period's many factions.
