About San Goku Shi (j)(cezar)
I picked up San Goku Shi for the Game Boy Advance, a Japanese release from Cezar. It came out in the early 2000s, a time when the GBA library was filling up with all sorts of strategy and role playing games. This one fits right into that era, a turn based strategy title based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms period.
You control the forces of a warlord, managing cities and moving armies across a map of ancient China. The main goal is to unify the land under your rule, either through diplomacy or outright conquest. Key mechanics involve recruiting and deploying famous generals, each with unique stats, and engaging in large scale tactical battles on grid based fields. You spend a lot of time balancing resource production, forming alliances that can break at a moment's notice, and planning multi front wars. The pacing is deliberate, demanding careful long term strategy rather than quick actions, and the difficulty can be steep as rival factions expand aggressively. It feels like a complex, absorbing puzzle where every decision has weight.
