About Samurai Kid
Samurai Kid came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by KID and published by Natsume. It was part of that wave of action platformers that filled the handheld's library, a time when developers were experimenting with the hardware's color capabilities. The game doesn't have the same recognition as some of its peers, but it found its way into a lot of carts back then.
You control a young samurai on a quest to rescue a kidnapped princess. The game plays out screen by screen; you move from one static area to the next, clearing out all the enemies before you can proceed. Your main tools are your sword for close combat and a bow for hitting distant targets. You explore multi-level stages, often descending into dungeons and castles, and you collect special items to unlock new abilities and progress. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be sharp, especially with the limited checkpoints. It feels like a methodical test of your timing and pattern recognition.
