I picked up Samurai Jack: The Amulet of Time for the Game Boy Advance back in 2003, a time when licensed games were a regular sight on the handheld. Vivendi Universal Games published it, and it was one of several attempts to translate the show's distinct style into a playable adventure. It felt very much of its era, a side-scrolling action title you could carry in your pocket.

You control Jack himself, moving through levels screen by screen, slashing at Aku's robotic minions with your katana. The main goal is to recover the pieces of a shattered amulet, which involves navigating platforming sections and delving into themed dungeons. A key mechanic is switching between your sword for close combat and a bow for hitting distant switches or enemies. The pacing is deliberate, with some tricky jumps and enemy patterns that require patience. Playing it feels like guiding a miniature, determined samurai through a series of compact, challenging dioramas.
