I remember picking up The Rugrats Movie for Game Boy Color back in 1999. It was published by THQ, one of those many licensed games that filled the shelves during the handheld's peak. You got exactly what you expected: a side scrolling adventure starring the whole diaper crew.
You control Tommy Pickles, and sometimes other babies, through levels based on the movie. Your main goal is to rescue Tommy's baby brother, Dil, who has been taken. You crawl through the house and backyard, screen by screen, avoiding hazards like toys and family pets. The main mechanics involve picking up certain items, like cookies, to progress and using your trusty screwdriver to interact with objects. It is a slow paced game, and the hit detection can be unforgiving, making some jumps feel more difficult than they should. Playing it feels like navigating a familiar but surprisingly treacherous playground.
