About Rox (usa, Europe)
Rox came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, a time when the handheld was full of puzzle games trying to stand out. I don't recall the developer's name offhand, but it was one of those titles you'd find in a bargain bin, a simple concept executed with clear purpose. It fit right in with the portable era, designed for short bursts of play during a commute or between classes.
You control a small, blocky character navigating single screen rooms filled with colored blocks. Your main goal is to clear each stage by pushing every block of a specific color into matching holes in the floor. The core mechanics involve careful sliding; you can only push blocks, not pull them, so a wrong move can permanently trap you. You also have to contend with immovable walls and sometimes multiple block colors, forcing you to plan your path in reverse. The pacing is deliberate, a slow burn that makes you stop and think before every push. It feels like untangling a knot in your mind, one deliberate slide at a time.
