About Roland Garros
I picked up Roland Garros for the Game Boy Color back when it came out, a tennis game that landed on the handheld without much fanfare. It was developed by Bit Managers and published by Ubisoft, arriving during a period when sports titles were a common, if not always polished, presence on the platform. You got a straightforward tennis simulation, the kind you'd play in short bursts between other things.
You control a tennis player from an isometric perspective, moving them around the court to return serves and volley. The main goal is to win matches by outscoring your opponent in sets, working through a tournament bracket. Key mechanics include timing your swings for different shot types, like lobs or slices, and positioning your player to anticipate where the ball will land. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty can spike sharply against later opponents, demanding quick reflexes. It feels like a simple but demanding test of your coordination and patience.
