Rockman Zero 2 came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, developed by Inti Creates. It was part of that wave of action platformers that really pushed the hardware, arriving a couple of years after the GBA launched. You got a lot of these tight, challenging games on that little cartridge.

You control Zero, a Reploid, through a series of missions in a post apocalyptic world. Your main goal is to stop the nefarious Elpizo from reviving the Dark Elf, which involves fighting through enemy bases and defeating themed bosses. The gameplay is built on fast, screen by screen exploration and intense combat where you primarily use a light saber like Z-Saber; you can also pick up a ranged buster shot and a defensive shield. A key mechanic is the Cyber Elf system, where you collect and raise these little programs to grant permanent stat boosts or temporary abilities, which feels like a small bit of character building amid the action. The pacing is relentless and the difficulty is steep, demanding precise jumps and quick reflexes to survive. It feels sharp and demanding, like every input has to be deliberate.
