Robot Wars: Metal Mayhem was a Game Boy Color release from 2000, published by BBC Multimedia. It arrived when the handheld was full of licensed titles, and this one tried to capture the spirit of the TV show where homemade robots fought in an arena. You don't control a specific character; you build and pilot your own combat robot from a selection of parts.
Your main goal is to win the Robot Wars championship by defeating a series of opponents. You start in the garage, where you assemble your machine, choosing its chassis, weapons, and armor. The combat itself is turn based; you and your opponent take turns moving on a grid and attacking with weapons like axes or spinning discs. You must manage your robot's power and repair damage between fights. The game can be quite difficult, as a few solid hits can disable your creation.
