About Rip-tide Racing
Rip-Tide Racing came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by Vivid Image and published by THQ. It was part of that wave of late-era GBC games trying to squeeze more out of the hardware before the Advance arrived. You get a sense of that push in its isometric view, which was a bit of a technical stretch for the system at the time.
You control a rider on a personal watercraft, racing through a series of twisting, screen-filling courses. The main goal is straightforward: finish first. Your signature moves are pulling off stunts in the air for a temporary speed boost and using a limited supply of turbo for quick bursts. The tracks are tight, demanding precise turns to avoid slamming into walls, and the AI racers are aggressive, making the difficulty pretty consistent. It feels like a constant, jostling fight for position on the water.
