About Reign Of Fire
Reign of Fire came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by Kuju Entertainment. It was part of that wave of games trying to bring a cinematic, post-apocalyptic feel to the handheld, capitalizing on the movie of the same name. You got a lot of these dark fantasy action titles on the GBA, and this one fit right in with its gritty aesthetic.
You control a dragon hunter navigating a ruined world from a side-on perspective. Your main goal is to hunt down and eliminate the dragon threat. You explore the landscape screen by screen, using a sword for close combat and a crossbow for hitting distant or flying enemies. The game involves a lot of backtracking through desolate environments as you gather key items to progress. It can be a difficult trek, with enemies that respawn and limited resources making each encounter count. Moving through its bleak levels feels like a constant, deliberate struggle for survival.
