Rampage came out for the Sega Master System, a port of the arcade game by Bally Midway. On a console known for its bright colors and simpler arcade conversions, this one fit right in. It was a game you could just pick up and play, a familiar sight for anyone who had spent quarters at the local pizza parlor.

You control one of three giant monsters, like George the ape or Lizzie the lizard, and your goal is to smash every building in each city to rubble. You climb up the sides of skyscrapers, punching out windows and tearing down walls floor by floor. The military constantly fires tanks and helicopters at you, so you have to swat them out of the sky or eat the soldiers for health. The game scrolls horizontally from one city to the next, and the challenge is to destroy everything before your health completely drains. It is a straightforward, repetitive cycle of destruction that feels satisfyingly chaotic.
