About Qbasic Gorillas
QBasic Gorillas is a two-player artillery game released in 1991 for MS-DOS. It was developed and published by Microsoft Corporation and was included as a sample program with the QBasic interpreter. The game presents a side view of two gorillas positioned on top of city skyscrapers.
Players take turns controlling a gorilla, aiming to hit the opponent with a thrown banana bomb. Each turn involves setting an angle and power for the throw while accounting for environmental factors like wind speed and direction, which affect the projectile's trajectory. The objective is to calculate a path that clears any intervening buildings and lands the explosive on or near the opposing gorilla. The urban landscape becomes progressively damaged by explosions from near misses over the course of the match.
The game proceeds in a turn-based structure until one gorilla successfully hits the other, ending the round. The core gameplay revolves around estimating the physics of the throw, with gravity acting as a constant force. Visual feedback is provided for each attempt, showing the banana's arc and impact point. The game does not feature complex character movement or exploration, focusing instead on the strategic calculation of each shot.
