About Puyo Puyo Sun
Puyo Puyo Sun came out for the Game Boy Color in 1996, developed by Compile. It was one of those puzzle games you'd see everywhere when the GBC was new, a colorful follow up to the original Puyo Puyo that fit right in your pocket. The hardware could finally show more than four shades of green, and this game used that to its full advantage.
You control the falling pairs of colored blobs, rotating and sliding them to create chains. The main goal is to outlast your opponent by building large chain reactions that dump a flood of nuisance Puyos onto their side of the screen. The big addition here is the Sun Puyo, a special piece that, when popped, clears all Puyos of the same color on the field. This lets you set off massive chains from a single trigger. You can also charge a special meter to unleash a unique attack for your chosen character, which changes the dynamic of a match. The pacing is fast, and the computer opponents get tough quickly, demanding you plan several moves ahead. It feels frantic and clever when you finally pull off a chain you've been building toward.
