About Psycho Fox
Psycho Fox came out for the Sega Master System, developed and published by Sega in 1989. It was part of that late 80s wave of platformers where developers were experimenting with more than just running and jumping, trying to give their characters unique abilities that set them apart on a console known for its bright colors and solid arcade-style games.
You control the titular fox, Psycho Fox, on a quest to defeat the evil Madfox Daimyojin. Your main goal is to travel through six worlds, each a series of single-screen areas, to reach the boss at the end. The game's signature mechanics are its character transformation and item collection. By finding hidden power-up shops, you can temporarily change into one of three other animals: Hippo, who breaks certain blocks; Tiger, who attacks with a quick punch; or Monkey, who can jump higher. You also collect bells scattered throughout the levels, and finding a special hidden item in each world is necessary to progress. The pacing is brisk, with some tricky enemy placements and leaps that require precise timing, making it a decent challenge for the platform. It feels like a clever and slightly unpredictable adventure every time you play.
