About Pro Pool
Pro Pool came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, published by Atlus. It was part of that wave of sports and simulation titles that tried to bring a specific real world activity to the handheld. You would see a lot of these pocket sized versions of games, and this one aimed for the pool hall.
You control the cue stick, lining up shots on a top down view of the table. The main goal is simply to win games of eight ball or nine ball against a series of computer opponents. A key mechanic is the aiming guide; a line extends from the cue ball to show the path, and you adjust the English by moving a dot around the ball before you shoot. Another is the power meter, a bar you stop to set the strength of your shot. The game moves at a deliberate pace, demanding careful planning over quick reactions, and the computer players can be surprisingly sharp, punishing sloppy positioning. It feels like a quiet, thoughtful puzzle where every shot changes the entire layout of the table.
