Pro Mahjong Kiwame GB II is one of those deep-cut Game Boy Color mahjong sims that feels way more polished than it has any right to be. The tiles have this satisfying chunky pixel art look, and the AI actually puts up a decent fight—none of that "let the player win" nonsense. First thing you'll notice is how snappy the controls are for a GB game, letting you focus on reading your opponent's discards instead of fighting the interface.
It's got that classic Japanese mahjong rule set (no American simplified stuff here), so if you're new to riichi scoring, prepare for a steep learning curve. But once it clicks, there's something weirdly addictive about trying to build that perfect hand while the little Game Boy chiptune "pon!" sound effects play. Definitely a niche pick, but if you're into retro mahjong, this one holds up way better than most.
