I remember picking up Power Rangers: Dino Thunder for the Game Boy Advance back in 2004. It was published by THQ, a company that put out a lot of licensed games for the handheld during that era. This one was part of that wave of side scrolling action games based on popular TV shows, a familiar sight next to titles like Spider Man 2 or various Disney platformers on the GBA.

In the game, you control the Red Ranger, Connor, as he fights through levels filled with Putty Patrollers and other monsters. The main goal is straightforward: battle from the left side of the screen to the right, defeat a boss, and move on to the next stage. Your main tools are a basic combo for your sword and a blaster for ranged attacks. You can also switch between your civilian form and your powered up Ranger suit, which gives you access to a special super attack once you fill a meter. The levels are linear and the difficulty is manageable, though some enemy patterns require a moment to learn. It feels like a solid, no frills beat 'em up that captures the simple energy of the show.
