Pool of Radiance is a role-playing game released for MS-DOS in 1988 by Strategic Simulations, Inc. It is an adaptation of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons rules, set in the Forgotten Realms campaign world. The game takes place in and around the city of Phlan, a once-prosperous trade port now largely overrun by monsters, with only a small district remaining under human control.

Players control a party of up to six adventurers, which can be created from scratch or selected from pre-made characters. Character creation involves choosing from several races and classes, assigning attributes, and selecting moral alignments. The primary objective is to explore the city and its surrounding dungeons from a first-person perspective, undertaking quests to reclaim the area from monstrous inhabitants. Gameplay alternates between exploration in a pseudo-3D view and turn-based, isometric combat encounters triggered at random. Defeating enemies grants experience points, allowing characters to level up and gain new abilities, such as additional attacks for fighters or more spells for magic-users. Some non-human characters can also multi-class, learning skills from a second profession as they advance.

The structure involves navigating through distinct districts and dungeon complexes, completing specific missions to progress the story. Players manage inventory, equipment, and spell memorization for their party, with rest required to recover health and magical abilities. The game systems focus on tactical combat, character progression, and exploration of hostile environments, with the party's actions influencing the state of the besieged city.
