About Pocket Puyo Puyo Sun (japan)
I first played Pocket Puyo Puyo Sun on my Game Boy Color back in 1998. It was developed by Compile, the same team behind the earlier Puyo Puyo games. This was a time when the handheld was full of puzzle games, but this one always stood out for its bright colors and cheerful presentation. It felt right at home on the system.
You control a cursor to drop colored blobs, called Puyo, into a well. The main goal is to create chains by connecting four or more of the same color, making them pop and send nuisance Puyo to your opponent's screen. The signature mechanics include the Sun Puyo, which acts as a wildcard and can complete any color chain, and the All Clear, which grants a huge attack bonus for emptying the entire board. The pacing starts deceptively simple but quickly demands fast planning as the Puyo rise faster. Playing it feels like a constant, satisfying race between your own strategy and the mounting pressure.
