About Pocket Monsters Kin
Pocket Monsters Kin came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, a time when the handheld was full of ambitious projects trying new things. I don't recall who exactly made it, but it was one of those games that felt like it was pushing the hardware a bit, even if it wasn't from a major studio. It arrived when players were hungry for deep adventures they could carry in their pockets.
You control a young trainer tasked with exploring a large, connected world screen by screen. Your main goal is to find and befriend the various creatures scattered across the regions, which involves navigating tall grass and caves where they hide. A key mechanic is using different tools and items to interact with the environment, clearing paths or solving simple puzzles to reach new areas. You also manage a team of the creatures you've collected, each with unique abilities that help you progress. The pacing is deliberate; you spend a lot of time mapping out areas in your head and backtracking when you find a new ability. It feels like a slow, thoughtful journey of discovery, where every new screen holds a small secret.
