Pitfall - The Mayan Adventure (u)(mode7) Game

Pitfall - The Mayan Adventure on GBA is one of those classic platformers that feels like it’s constantly throwing something new at you. You’re Harry Jr., swinging over pits, dodging traps, and occasionally getting wrecked by snakes because you mistimed a jump (happens more than I’d like to admit). The Mode7 graphics give it this weirdly cool pseudo-3D effect for some sections, which was pretty slick for a handheld at the time.
It’s got that old-school difficulty where you’ll replay the same stretch a dozen times, but nailing a tricky vine swing or finally clearing a spike trap feels satisfying. Also, the soundtrack slaps—those jungle beats stick in your head. Just watch out for the quicksand. It’s sneakier than it looks.
