About Phantasy Star
Phantasy Star came out for the Sega Master System in 1987, developed and published by Sega. At a time when many console RPGs were still quite basic, this one stood out on the platform with its detailed visuals and a surprising amount of story. It felt like a step into a more complete science fiction world right there on the SMS.
You control Alis, a young woman seeking revenge for her brother's murder. Your main goal is to gather a party and defeat the tyrannical King Lassic. You explore towns and dungeons screen by screen, engaging in first person, turn based battles with monsters. A key feature is the mix of fantasy and sci fi settings; you travel between planets, use laser guns alongside magic, and navigate complex, maze like dungeons that require maps. The game has a deliberate pace and can be quite difficult, with random encounters and tough boss fights. Playing it feels like unraveling a substantial, personal journey across the stars.
