About Phalanx
Phalanx came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, published by Kemco. It was part of that early wave of GBA games, arriving when the handheld was still new and developers were exploring what the system could do. You see a lot of different genres from that period, and this one was Kemco's take on the top-down action adventure style.
You control a young hero named Boone, exploring a world screen by screen. Your main goal is to venture into dungeons, fight monsters, and gather the scattered pieces of the Aegis, a powerful artifact. You use a sword for close combat and a bow for hitting enemies from a distance, switching between them as the situation demands. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and some of the later dungeons can be quite challenging with their enemy placements and puzzles. It feels like a methodical journey where each new screen could hide a secret or a tough fight.
