About Paybacktime 2

PaybackTime 2 is a turn based tactics game released for MS DOS in 1997. The game is viewed from a bird's eye perspective and supports multiplayer matches for up to four players locally via a hot seat mode. Players also have the option to compete against artificial intelligence opponents, which feature four selectable difficulty levels. The shareware version of the game imposes certain restrictions, while the registered version provides expanded content and tools.

In PaybackTime 2, players control a team of warriors, with each side able to field up to twenty units. The primary objective is to defeat the opposing team or teams in tactical combat across various maps. Players can choose from three pre generated teams or assemble their own custom squads. For matches involving more than two players, the game allows for the formation of alliances, enabling two or more players to fight on the same side. Progression is centered around individual battles rather than a narrative campaign, with the tactical depth arising from unit management and environmental interaction.

The gameplay involves equipping warriors with a wide array of futuristic weaponry, including firearms, energy weapons, explosives, grenades, and melee tools. A key tactical system is environmental destruction, as powerful weapons can demolish walls and other structures, dynamically altering the battlefield. The game includes detailed documentation, such as a Tactics File manual that guides players through team creation, equipment, and combat strategies. The registered version significantly expands the experience by providing twenty two maps, removing unit limits, and enabling comprehensive customization through dedicated weapon, item, and map editors.
