About Ougon No Taiyo (j)(eurasia)
Ougon No Taiyo, known as Golden Sun in English, was a Game Boy Advance release from 2001 (or 2002 in North America) developed by Camelot and published by Nintendo. It arrived when the GBA library was expanding with deeper, console style RPGs, offering a substantial adventure on a handheld.
You control a party of young Adepts, like Isaac, who wield elemental Psynergy to solve puzzles and fight monsters across a world map and in turn based battles. Your main goal is to pursue the antagonists who are lighting the elemental lighthouses, an act that could unleash Alchemy with catastrophic results. Signature mechanics include using Psynergy outside of combat to move pillars, grow vines, or freeze water for progression, and collecting Djinn that you can equip to modify your characters' stats and summon powerful creatures in battle. The game moves at a deliberate pace, with dungeon navigation and environmental puzzles requiring as much thought as the combat, and the difficulty comes from managing your Djinn setup and resource conservation during longer treks. Exploring its vibrant world and steadily unlocking new abilities creates a satisfying sense of growth and discovery.
