About Ottifanten
Ottifanten came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by NEON Software. It was part of that wave of licensed games based on the German comic characters, landing right when the handheld was full of colorful platformers and puzzle games. You don't hear much about it now, but it was there on the shelf alongside more familiar titles.
You control Otto, one of the elephant-like Ottifants, navigating through a series of side scrolling levels. Your main goal is to rescue your kidnapped friends from the evil Dr. Foetzki. You run, jump on platforms, and headbutt enemies to clear your path. A key mechanic involves collecting scattered puzzle pieces in each stage; you need to find them all to unlock the exit. The game also features some light puzzle solving, like pushing blocks to reach higher areas. The pacing is methodical, as you often backtrack to find missed pieces, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later zones. It feels like a straightforward collectathon that requires a careful eye.
