Open Season came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2006, a time when licensed games based on animated films were common on the handheld. Ubisoft published this title, which translated the movie's forest setting into a side scrolling adventure.

You control Boog, a domesticated grizzly bear, and later his deer friend Elliot. The main goal is to cause enough chaos in the forest to drive the human hunters out for good. You move through levels screen by screen, using a simple melee attack to swat at hunters and wildlife. Collecting acorns scattered throughout the stages is a constant task, often used to unlock new areas or progress. The pacing is straightforward, though some enemy placements can feel cheap, leading to occasional frustration. Playing it feels like a straightforward, sometimes clunky, romp through a cartoon world.
